Castle Stalker is a picturesque four-storey tower house located on a small tidal islet on Loch Laich, near Port Appin in Argyll, Scotland. The name “Stalker” comes from the Gaelic “Stalcaire,” meaning “hunter” or “falconer”.
Originally built around 1320 by the Clan MacDougall, the castle was later taken over by the Stewarts in the 1440s. It changed hands several times between the Stewarts and the Campbells before being abandoned in the 1840s. The castle was restored in the 1960s and is now privately owned.
Castle Stalker is also known for its appearances in popular culture, including the film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” where it was featured as “The Castle Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh”.
The castle is open to the public for tours during select times of the year, and visitors can enjoy a boat trip to the islet and explore the historic site.
